Electric Scooter Buying Mistakes to Avoid
These are the mistakes behind most of the “I wish I had known” messages we receive. Avoid them and you will probably be happy with whatever you buy.
- Trusting the claimed range. Plan on 60–75% of it. Buy by watt-hours, not the number on the box.
- Ignoring the load rating. A scooter ridden near its limit is slow, climbs poorly and wears quickly. Leave a 15–20 kg margin.
- Buying speed you cannot use. Check local limits first. Performance you cannot legally use costs money, weight and range.
- Forgetting you have to carry it. A 30 kg scooter and a third-floor flat do not mix. Weigh the lift, not just the ride.
- Choosing solid tires for a rough commute. Puncture-proof is tempting; a harsh, slippery ride is the price.
- Skipping the parts check. If tires, tubes, pads and a charger are not sold for the model, you will be stuck at the first puncture.
- Assuming a part is universal. Chargers, tires, brake pads and controllers are model-specific. Verify compatibility before ordering.
- Not asking who handles the warranty. A warranty serviced from another continent may mean months without a scooter.
- Skipping the helmet budget. Add a certified helmet, lights and a lock to the price before you decide.
Our product pages are built to make these checks easy: comparable specifications, a load rating on every scooter, parts matched to models and warranty terms stated per product.
