Understanding Electric Scooter Specifications

A scooter specification sheet packs a lot into a few lines. This glossary explains each field as it appears on our product pages, in the order you will find it.

  • Maximum speed (manufacturer-rated). The top speed set by the controller, usually in the fastest mode with a light rider. Regional versions of the same model can differ.
  • Range (manufacturer-claimed). Distance on one charge under the manufacturer’s test conditions. Plan on 60–75% in real use.
  • Motor power — nominal / peak. Continuous power the motor can sustain, and the short burst the controller allows. Compare nominal figures.
  • Battery capacity (Wh) and voltage. Watt-hours = volts × amp-hours; the best predictor of range. Higher voltage systems climb better and run cooler.
  • Charging time. Hours from empty to full with the supplied charger. Faster approved chargers may exist.
  • Maximum rider load. The weight the scooter is designed to carry, including your gear. Treat it as a hard limit.
  • Scooter weight. What you will lift. Over 20 kg is awkward for stairs; over 30 kg is a two-handed job.
  • Tire size and type. Diameter in inches and whether pneumatic, tubeless, self-healing or solid. Bigger and air-filled is more comfortable.
  • Braking system. Drum, mechanical disc, hydraulic disc, foot brake and electronic/regenerative braking, front and rear. Two independent systems is the standard.
  • Suspension. None, spring, rubber cartridge or hydraulic, front and/or rear. Matters most on rough roads and at speed.
  • Water-resistance rating. IP code. The second digit is water: 4 = splashes, 5 = jets. “X” means dust was not tested. No rating covers submersion.
  • Folding mechanism. How the stem (and sometimes handlebars) fold and lock. A secondary safety catch is a good sign.
  • Dimensions. Unfolded and folded length × width × height, for storage and transport.
  • Rated hill climb. Maximum gradient in percent, measured with a light rider. Halve your expectations near the load limit.
  • Included accessories and warranty. What is in the box, and how long the frame, electronics and battery are covered.

Manufacturer-rated versus independently verified

We label every speed, range and hill-climb figure as manufacturer-rated unless we have measured it. When we have, the product page shows a verification note with who rode, their weight, the route and the conditions, so you can judge the number for yourself.
